In order to become a naturalized United States citizen, a Lawful Permanent Resident must show Good Moral Character for a certain period of time.[133]  Reduction of a felony conviction of a crime involving moral turpitude to a misdemeanor can assist the noncitizen to qualify for the Petty Offense Exception, and thereby avoid inadmissibility for crimes and disqualification from naturalization.
