(A) Statutory Maximum Possible Sentence. The most common maximum limit to the custody time that may be imposed for a given offense of conviction is found by reading the statute that specifies the maximum possible sentence to custody that may be imposed for this specific conviction of the specific offense. For immigration purposes, the sentence for the offense of conviction is what counts.
