Good news is found in the careful rules under which analysis is conducted to determine whether the record of conviction establishes that a particular conviction constitutes an aggravated felony.  Because of these rules, a specific conviction very often cannot be considered an aggravated felony, and the drastic consequences are therefore avoided.  Great diligence and imagination are required in conducting this analysis, but it will often bear fruit.
