If the client is a lawful permanent resident, or has other lawful immigration status in the United States, s/he is primarily interested in avoiding deportability. See Chapter 17, infra. A number of grounds of deportability do not depend upon the existence of a conviction, and thus may apply to juvenile noncitizens. A complete list of the grounds of deportation is included in Appendix D, infra, and the conduct-based, as opposed to conviction-based grounds, are identified by the word “conduct” at the end of each ground.
