(A)  In General.  The concept of maximum possible sentence to imprisonment appears to have the same meaning in these different contexts: the statute defining the punishment for the offense of conviction must allow a sentence to imprisonment for the specified period or longer to trigger the particular immigration consequence.  Specific tactics for avoiding damaging potential maximum sentences are discussed at § 10.19, supra.
