(D)  Release to Immigration Before Service of Sentence.  A noncitizen defendant can attempt to avoid actual service of a criminal sentence by requesting that the court suspend sentence, and release the defendant from immigration custody, in order to allow the defendant to pass into immigration detention and be deported without actually serving the sentence.  See § § 6.20-6.30, supra.
