(A)  In General.  Defense counsel’s normal goals in sentencing are (1) to avoid a serious offense of conviction, if possible, and (2) to avoid a lengthy or otherwise onerous sentence.  Counsel should also, in general, attempt to minimize collateral consequences of sentence insofar as possible, and insofar as certain collateral consequences are of particular importance to the client.  See § 5.7, supra.
