The sentence imposed for a criminal conviction is relevant to the immigration consequences of a CMT conviction in two circumstances: (1) the pre-1996 single-CMT-conviction ground of deportation, and (2) whether a CMT conviction falls within the Petty Offense Exception to inadmissibility.
