(C) Domestic Violence. Conviction of a crime of violence constitutes a basis for deportation under the domestic violence ground of deportation if the defendant has or has had a specified relationship with the victim (spouse, co-habitant as spouse, co-parent of a child).[131] A firearms offense that is a crime of violence may therefore be a crime of domestic violence if committed against a listed victim. See, generally, Chapter 22, supra.
[131] See INA § 237(a)(2)(E)(i), 8 U.S.C. § 1227(a)(2)(E)(i). This applies to convictions received on or after September 30, 1996.
