The statute authorizes the court to dismiss "in furtherance of justice . . . ."[426] Courts are empowered to fashion a remedy to suit the needs of the case."[427] The test is to balance many factors, including the interests of the defendant and the interests of society.[428] The interests of justice is therefore a standard broad enough to encompass equitable grounds as well as grounds of legal invalidity.
